Pair of Italian Marble Lions

Italian, late 1800's, pair of hand carved marble lions. Beautifully carved and aged, with nice facial features and mane. The sculptures depict standing male lions with a ball under one claw, each looking to the opposing side. They are modeled after the Medici Lions from the Villa Medici's Loggia dei leoni, currently at Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Italy. The original form has it's origins from second century BC.
